JD and Ashley met while working in a corporate copy shop in Austin, Texas. They bonded over their love of surfing the web for blogs, and using company supplies to create clothing vision boards. The name Two Months Rent started as a joke for the aspirational fashion and style blog they were launching. It came down to that, or We Live in a Box. They picked up jewelry on a whim, and it became the creative outlet needed to escape from creatively unfulfilling jobs. Both Texas natives, they each headed to Austin as soon as they struck out on their own. In school JD studied photography and Ashley studied painting and video. After college they each partook of a variety of creative pursuits, but after taking a soldering class, they fell in love with making jewelry, and the rest is history. Two Months Rent is based on a love of both glamour and utilitarian design. They are interested in taking classic pieces that anyone can relate to, such as ID bracelets or initial pendants, and updating them in a modern way. Two Months Rent is about creating jewelry that is versatile, and can be worn by men or women, day or night. Each piece of Two Months Rent jewelry is designed and produced by JD and Ashley in their East Austin studio.
